Hello! I'm Logan from Prancing Pug Games. Blake asked me to come over and talk about my kickstarter for Crescent!
Crescent is a brand new setting and system for TTRPGs. Our team has taken inspiration from a lot of sources to put it together and create a unique experience for anyone interested in getting into it. Crescent is built around the ideas of creativity and modularity, which you can see throughout the game.
Setting wise, Crescent takes place in an endless archipelago, simply called the Crescent. Each island in the archipelago has a unique magic that can warp reality around it. Some islands have magic that changes the environment, causing islands to become artic regions or desolate deserts. Others have more unusual effects, such as permanent lightning storms or seemingly sentient plagues. The strangest islands can even effect people's minds, causing them to lose all memories of their time before arriving. The possibilities of an island's magic are endless.
Despite these oddities, life in the Crescent is troubled by many mundane issues too. Island magic can't be controlled by people, and no other form of true magic exists. Many people make their livings off of the sea as fishers or merchants. Pirates and cultists run rampant across the uncharted regions of the Crescent, stealing or killing those who dare to sail on their seas without protection. Players will usually play as sailors or drifters, exploring the archipelago, visiting new cultures, facing off against strange beasts, and defending themselves from the common threat of bandits on the seas.
As a system, Crescent draws a lot of inspiration from the Divinity: Original Sin series. There are no classes; instead, players can learn individual abilities (called Techniques) based off of their physical and mental Attributes. There are over 600 unique Techniques currently in the game at just levels 1 and 2. This allows players to make their own characters with mixed toolsets for use both in and out of combat. For instance, a character with Quickness and Willpower may take abilities that help them rush into a fight without a care, while a character with Strength and Knowledge might look for an opening in an enemy's guard to hit them as hard as they can. We're still discovering new ways to play the game as the developers
Due to some of the crunch of the game and the sheer number of options players have, we're aiming for it to be heavily digitally supported to aid with gameplay. We already have an early (but still buggy) tool to help players sort through Techniques here: crescentrpg.com/Demo/TechniqueOrganizer if you're interested in checking it out. We also have the entirety of the game available for free in google docs right now, and we will release early level content for free on our website if we're successfully backed.
Thanks for taking a look at our game!
And we have a Press Kit available here: crescentrpg.com/AboutUs/PressKit
